Task 5: Focus Group

Focus Group

Focus groups are a form of group interview. Focus group sessions are recorded (usually by audio) with notes, Like any other research or evaluation tool their purpose is to gather information. Through listening and observing interactions focus groups can help us to appreciate how people think and feel about our idea for the final product.

Mr halsey - ' think about your target audience socio-economic ( D-E are not educated and uni students are excluded' ' nail down the genre, more towards romance drama, see how does crime contribute to your pitch and idea' ' your taking misfits and 90210 as a backup also filling the gaps they missed out'.

Zulq - ' I wouldnt watch this as its targeted more to females, and im not part of the 30% male audience.' ' taking the idea from misfit, copying their pitch. therefore your idea doesnt have a USP'

Hamza - ' I'm happy with the timing and schedules, i like the idea that the show plays on weekdays as well as weekends as im most likely to be busy on saturdays and this gives me the chance to catch up on the show on wednesday evenings'

Vinisha - ' needs a twist to the storyline, like the location.' missing a little magic thats needed to make your idea standout and unique'

Navneet - ' research the programme revenge as it has some aspects of crime, and the romance and crime can work and be done'

We have gathered a lot of useful information from this session and appricate everyones comment and thoughts about our final product. The focus group helped us highlight key our strenghts and weakness and how to improve on our idea and take the negative and turn them into a postive point. This, Most certainly, will impact on our final product as we are aiming to be successful. Firstly, this session has an impact on our chose of genre, as our pitch did not contribute to it, also our target audience demographic group we need to change as our age group are more likely to be educated and at UNI. Secondly, this would impact our idea and pitch over all as we didnt have a unique selling point and Vinsha gave some clues and opinions on this whihc we really benefitted from, now we are adding a twist and some magic to make our idea stand out and fill in the gaps the other programmes on E4 missed out on.

A detailed breakdown of the target audience for our TV programme.
Our target audience for our TV programme will be females and males aged 15-25, with 70 % females and 30% males. The gender for our Tv programme is an urban teen drama thats going to be played on E4 at 8.30 every wednesdays and saturdays. I aimed my product at people who are either in C2 - D categpry of the jicnar scale. C2 and D in the category is usually defined as a skilled or partially unskilled manual workers and these include educated and uni people. This links in with the psychorgraphic vaues my target audience also due to the social class being working class backgrounds of my demographics, this will appeal to the C2-D category of the jicnar scale. The race/ethnicity for my media product is audience from all different race that are usually living in urban areas, and here you got a wide range of race/ethnicity here.
