Reebok Advert Analyses...

Colour- the colour used for this advert is simply black, white and grey. Black connotes strength and the grey could connote a bad past or history and also the white copy in this image could connotes peace and hope for the future. the colour used creates a very dull atmosphere and gives the product this real quality the contrast between light and dark, which may link to 50 cents bad and good parts of his life.

Framing- the picture of 50 cent making direct eye contact with the camera makes the audience question why his face expression is so 'serious'. The finger prints on the right side tell us that 50 cent might have been in jail or committed a crime. The fact that the image is divided into two different parts might connote that he has 2 different life.

Composition-The line separating him from his past, the picture of fingerprints which connotes prison and crime ect, this means that he has changed his life around and is now a multimillionaire role model who is respected around the world.

Size- The text 'i am who i am' is very large and spans across the middle of the advert, this may imply that Reebok are enforcing people to be themselves.
The image itself isnt that large compared to the text in it, however, its still covers half the page of this adv. Underneath placed on the bottom is the Reebok logo which I don't think works well because it’s not very noticeable which means people can't recognise that the advert was made by Reebok.

Type of Shot-The picture of 50 cent is a medium close up, this allows the viewers to see the serious expression on his face, which may infer his characteristics as a famous person.
The fact that the shot is a medium close up enables the audience to clearly see his face which may persuade fans to be interested in the advert.

Setting- we can see a studio shot of 50 cent, which gives a clean feel to the advert, this creates a focus on 50 cent and not anything else.

Lighting- there is a low key lighting set up on 50 cent, this creates a very serious mood which could reflect 50 cent's life story backed up by a quote from him.
The dark plain background and the only lighting shown is on his face which brings all the attention on 50 cent.

Pose- 50 cents facial expression and body language connets that he has power and authority.
Also the picture is a medium shot so therefore, you cant tell if he is sitting or standing up.

  1. WWW: Some very good analysis - I particularly like the idea that Reebok are encouraging people to be themselves.
EBI: Always think about the effect on audience when analysing a text.
LR: Why would negative connotations appeal to Reebok's target audience?
